Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the terms in the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle with Selby requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Selby Car Hire, you must be at least 21 years old, though age requirements may differ based on the vehicle type. A valid driving licence that matches the vehicle category is necessary, along with proof of your current address and identification. Ensure you have valid payment details and a security deposit ready. Additional criteria may apply as outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Dartford office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment, along with a security deposit, is usually required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT as applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- Upon collecting your vehicle, please conduct a thorough inspection and promptly report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and requires your signature. It is important to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was received, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. Ensure that the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as at pickup, as refueling fees will apply for any discrepancies. Late returns may also incur extra charges, so please inform us without delay if you expect to return the vehicle late. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during the rental period, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. Detailed information about coverage and excess limits is outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may help lessen your financial responsibility. It is wise to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount, unless additional insurance is purchased. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms is your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Late cancellations or no-shows may incur fees, so please review these details carefully to avoid any unexpected charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Your Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. Activities such as racing, rallying, off-roading, or any dangerous driving practices are prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials or sub-letting the vehicle to others is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden, as is exceeding passenger or weight limits. Operating the vehicle outside agreed geographical boundaries without authorization is also prohibited.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Limitation of Responsibility
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Selby Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for claims will be limited to the rental amount you paid in the past 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability arising from negligence that causes death or personal injury, or from fraudulent activity.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in this region.
